A tip on how to educate and inform

Make a better presentation

It is very educational to coach lecturers and then see the result as well as taking part of other people’s feedback and your own reflections. It is a kind of research on good presentation skills.

Not long ago I coached a number of lecturers who were giving presentations at a big conference. Many presentation tools were confirmed. Based on these, here is the latest version of the eternal lesson on how to give a good presentation.

First, five tools to get the content right:

But even if these classical tools do a lot to improve your presentation, it is not the whole truth. A great presentation has something more. It also has passion, presence and charisma. These are least as important as the five tools above.

It is amazing to see how presence and charisma can compensate for less good introductions and lack of examples. Even if having it all, of course, works the best.

We have written many articles in Strategies about this elusive charisma. An important ingredient is to talk freely, let go of control and to "go for it".

Still, all of those who do not feel like elaborating with their charisma should know that the five tools above will make a definitely better presentation.
