How to work creatively and celebrate your successes

Are successes celebrated at your place of work, or just taken for granted? When I present the concept "Celebrate Success!" people usually realize its importance instantly. By celebrating our successes we become more conscious of them and of the whole creative process. We learn more, receive more energy and build on our self confidence.

One reason that organizational change sometimes fails, I believe, is because no one celebrates when the goal is reached. When the job is done after months of stress and chaos we have all reason to celebrate completion with all who have been involved. Mark the occasion with balloons, song and good food, just like people in sports do!

We could on the whole enjoy the fruits of our work more. There are those who really do, for example, the seminar participants who carefully collect all the notes and flip-chart drawings they have produced during a workshop. They feel proud over what they have done and put their notes up on the walls when they come home.

We learn attitudes toward success already as children. It is easy to become a hinder for children’s projects, with our attitudes toward order and tidiness. Sometimes things get chaotic, just as during the reorganization at work. Let children reach the finish line, too, in their own way!

When we celebrate our success, whether as an organization, team or private person, we increase our self-esteem, find more energy to take us on to future successes, and in fact gain a more positive view of life and ourselves.

In order for a success to really be a success it must be something that we really feel strongly about. Here are some ideas for a team, but they apply just as well to an organization or a private person.

Best of Luck! Jonas Himmelstrand
