The review
read by Jonas Himmelstrand
Few books have affected my life to the degree of The Zone. It is a book about diet by the biochemist Dr. Barry Sears. During the last two years I have used the ideas in this book at every meal.
To live in The Zone is to live a life of well-being according to Dr. Sears. Enter The Zone by utilising the right proportions between proteins and carbohydrates keeps your hormones balanced and makes you feel satisfied, focused, strong as well as keeping your weight down. It sounds too good to be true, but after having tried it for two years I must say it delivers. In The Zone you experience yourself more present and stable with blood sugar and hormones in balance. The zone diet is in some respects a modern variety of the stone age diet and also focuses on a low glycemic index (GI).
Dr. Sears first tried to invent a medication against arteriosclerosis. But he discovered it was easier to change the diet. Dr. Sears was the nutritionist for the United States’ swimming team which received 8 gold medals at the Olympics in Barcelona 1992. Their diet was The Zone.
A Zone meal contains 30% of the calories from protein, 40% from carbohydrates and 30% from fat. Dr. Sears emphasizes not to further reduce the fat. As the total amount of calories is slightly lower than usual a typical Zone meal contains a little more protein, carbohydrates reduced by half and a normal amount of fat compared to a regular diet.
With a little effort at the start you will soon easily put together a Zone meal. Clear tables in the book makes it easier. The Zone is a great book for anyone who wants to increase the quality of their life by something as easy as their diet.
