The review

A Great Dvd

seen by Jonas Himmelstrand

Hold On To Your Kids

Many parents and teachers find the young generation of today challenging, in spite of lots of information on parenting methods and pedagogical methods.

Clinical and developmental psychologist Gordon Neufeld presents a whole new paradigm on learning and parental issues. Here they are presented in his lecture on this dvd Hold On To Your Kids based on his book with the same name. Gordon Neufeld has 30 years of clinical experience working with children and families, and a deep understanding of attachment theory, the base of human development. His findings make the parenting and pedagogical methods of today feel obsolete.

We have lost the context in which any parenting or teaching can take place, says Gordon Neufeld. Children are not difficult to parent. It is not having the right relationship with them that makes them difficult to parent. Before any parenting or learning can take place parents or teachers must win the young peoples hearts. Then, parenting and teaching is easy.

The problem in today’s western world is that peers have taken the roles of parents through the workings of attachment principles. As a result many young people’s healthy development is halted.

Gordon Neufeld’s presentation makes a very strong case with research and clinical experience as well as easily understood examples, metaphors and practical tools. As this information becomes common its implications on parenting, learning and society is hard to overestimate.

If you are a parent or teacher unfamiliar with Gordon Neufeld’s work, this dvd is excellent. This knowledge and its basic tools is a necessity for anyone coming in contact with young people today. Highly recommended.
